What is a Video Card? How does it work? What is it?

One of the most commonly heard terms is video cards. The video cards that allow the image to be reflected on the monitor also determine the quality of the image. The quality of an image on the computer screen depends on both the display adapter and the display card. Because if your monitor isn't featured enough, no matter how good your video card is, you won't get a quality image.

Today, many different types of video cards are produced according to their different video modes. Monitors use analog signals to display images. Graphics cards take the digital information of the image that will go to the screen, store it in its own memory, convert it to analog signals and project it on the screen.

Thanks to the memory of the video cards itself, the computer does not have to store images. This functional structure of the display cards also shows the need for power. In particular, high-performance graphics cards consume a great deal of power.

What is a Video Card?
When performing any operation on computers, it is possible to see the operation on the computer screen. The results of the obtained processes are taken to the media or devices to the output unit is called a video card. Graphics cards, other graphics cards, all kinds of text on the computer monitor, graphics, images, film, such as the creation of shapes between the processor and monitor adapters. Any outputs on the monitors are information from the graphics card.

In contrast, the display will appear; It is collected by the video card which is an interface between the processor and the monitor and the information generated by the computer is sent to the monitor as video signal by the video card. Since the video cards are produced in different types and qualities, standards have been developed for these cards. These; MDA (monochrome display adapter); On the computer screen, only letters, numbers, special characters and ASCII character can see the special graphic icons. CGA (colar graphics adapter); The first color video card. It displays 16 colors, works in three different modes: font, graphic and color. Currently not used. Hercules mono graphics; Although it is monochrome, its colors are represented by shades of gray and support graphics.

With a resolution of 720x348 pixels, it offers a better image than CGA. This video card is not currently in use. The graphics cards used today are the graphics standard VGA card. VGA works in accordance with all display modes. Digital signals are separated from other cards by converting them to analog signals. It is a very fast video card that uses VRAM with 8 bytes or more on a 64 bit bus. VGA video card is used with color monitors.

How Does a Video Card Work?
All graphics cards have different features. However, they have 3 basic characteristics. These; Video Chip; It generates signals that will generate images that the screen must reflect. RAM; The display information is stored in the screen. Access should be as fast as possible. RAMDAC; Information processed in the graphics processor and transferred to the video memory cannot be sent to the monitor. This is because these signals are digital. These signals need to be converted to analog RGB signals that the monitors can accept.

This task is also done on the graphics card RAMDAC unit. They perform according to the technologies of these three components and help the computer processor to a great extent. Graphics cards use a PCI or AGP bus. The data they receive from the CPU is reflected to the screen very quickly. This causes the CPU to relax. The power and memory of the video card determine the speed and quality of the projected image on the screen. The three elements mentioned above are of great importance in graphic quality.
For a better understanding of the subject, the processor in the computer sends a software or the graphics and pictures required by the software to the display card via a cable. Using this information, the display card decides which pixel size the picture will appear on the screen. The processor sends the information to the display card for storage in its own memory. It is then cached by geometric information and commands. Here, the process called shading is applied. By this process, it is ensured that the shape gets reality and size by using the information sent to the cache.

What is a Video Card?

The video card is connected to the AGP and PCI express slots on the motherboard. These ports can transfer data faster. There is a GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) that performs operations on the video card and video card memory that works with this processor. Graphics card memories are inserted on the video card for faster processing on the card. This means that all image processing is done on the graphics card without the need to use computer memory.

In other words, the main task of the video card from other interfaces (such as processor, harddisk, ram) is transferred to the monitor after the necessary transformations of the digital information received by the main card provides the image. In order to work on computers, the computer must have a graphics card in the case or in the laptop. It is a device that works between the processor and the monitor in the creation of shapes such as graphics, pictures, films, etc.
