The CryTek engine is taxing for the CPU, and directly affects the frame rate, the recommended AMD Ryzen 5 1600 over the Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 will avoid frustration. A quad core processor or above means a possible improvement compared to others. The AMD Ryzen 5 1600 also allows for overclocking from its base clock speed of 3.2GHZ, much higher than the Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000’s 2.0GHZ clock speed. An SSD for Star Citizen is not required, but is highly recommended and helps keep loading times to a minimum and the speed of gameplay at a higher rate after the loading has been completed. Star Citizen is very RAM intensive, so having at least 16GB is recommended, otherwise the game would slow when excess memory goes into your SSD/HDD.
With no Star Citizen Steam launch on the horizon you will need to go straight to Roberts Space Industries and use the Star Citizen Launcher to make the game work. Though it is easy when you have downloaded the game to add the game to your Steam collection. There are frequent Star Citizen patches so the game is a bit of movable feast, but the devs have build a good community on their Hardware Spectrum forum - you'll find support on graphic options and a bunch of crazy set ups.
Even though the project began in 2012 it is still in beta, and there is still no word on an official Star Citizen release date. Doesn't stop it being the most crow funded game in history!
